 Volunteer

The ways you can help Hearts in a Box as a volunteer are as many as your imagination can devise! Here are just a few ideas for helping with our Hearts and Heroes campaign. Please read our Guidelines for Writing Letters and Cards for important instructions and restrictions before you start.
  • Pick up a box or two of holiday cards or notes and start writing to the troops! It's a great way to do something meaningful with friends and family and when we include piles of cards and letters in our boxes, they are the #1 most popular item with the recipients. Not sure what to say or how to get them to us? Read those Guidelines we mentioned above!
  • If you're a school teacher, consider a classroom letter writing activity that will tickle the hearts of the soldiers and sailors who receive them. It's a grSample of child's letter to a soldier thanking them for their service.eat way to add meaning to many lesson plans. Children say "the darndest" things and their sweet, often funny, words and drawings make a huge difference to men and women who are away from home, missing their own families, and in need of a little lift. Hint: make some small address labels you can attach to each letter or drawing that lets the soldiers know from whose class it came and to whom they can respond, if possible for them to do so.
  • If you have ideas for a fundraiser or would like to learn more about volunteering for any upcoming events, please contact us by email and let us know! We're always looking for great ideas and extra sets of hands (and smiles!)
  • If you are connected in any way to a company or organization that sometimes supports local charities with financial and in-kind donations, we would love to hear about it!
  • If you have a family member currently serving in the military whose unit could benefit from a care package, contact us!
